Creative Calm

Creative Calm is a branch of Creative Herts Therapy that works with Space To Be Therapy https://www.spacetobetherapy.co.uk/  to provide courses and workshops for Christian foster and adoptive parents and parents of children with additional needs, in need of self-care opportunities and co-regulation guidance.

We know from personal experience that parenting trauma, disrupted attachment, regular dysregulation, meltdowns and hyper/hypo aroused nervous systems from brain-based differences can mean less opportunity and an even greater need for self-care.

We understand that in advocating for the needs of our children, we can default to putting aside our own spiritual, emotional and mental health needs because there just isn’t the time or the opportunity.

We also know that in building in effective self-care practices, we can provide better co-regulation for our families, increase the joy and hope in family life and build the energy reserves to deal with any challenges in the future.

Therefore, we have created online workshops, courses, downloadable resources, social media tips and techniques to help you soothe your nervous system and find moments of peace through creative, faith-based, self-care practices.

Creative Calm: Spring

A 6-week online evening course as we help you to explore creative, faith-based self-care practices to soothe your nervous system, develop new regulation skills, and find a moment of peace, in community with others on the same journey. Take this time for yourself to recharge your batteries.

Course starts Thursday January 8th 2026 from 8.00-9:15pm.

  • As play therapists we use creative techniques, rooted in the Bible and neuroscience research, to help you reset your nervous system and re-energise.

  • As foster and adoptive parents we know that time is limited so we provide all the resources you need in our Creative Calm box and post it to you before the course starts. This means that each week, you can just come as you are, with your box of resources all in one place.

  • Topics and techniques covered:

    • Understanding your nervous system from a neuroscience perspective,

    • The power of movement in regulation,

    • Breathing techniques that help you stay calm in a crisis,

    • Opportunities for spiritual connection and reflection and prayer,

    • Using our senses to regulate, reset and rest,

    • and more!
